Caption: Relating to the eligibility of land to continue to be appraised for ad valorem tax purposes as qualified open-space land following a transfer to a person who uses the land in materially the same way as the former owner and to late applications for such appraisal filed by the new owner of the land.
Initially Referred to House S/C on Property Tax Appraisals Committee, chaired by a Democrat
Last Referred to Senate Local Government Committee, chaired by a Republican
HB 1244 extends the eligibility for land to retain its open-space appraisal status for ad valorem tax purposes following ownership transfer, provided the new owner uses the land in a materially similar way as the previous owner. The bill also allows late applications for this appraisal status, as long as they are filed within one year of the ownership transfer. Late filings approved under this provision are exempt from penalties.
