Initially Referred to Senate Business & Commerce Committee, chaired by a Republican
Last Referred to House Licensing & Administrative Procedures Committee, chaired by a Republican
SB 522 amends the Occupations Code to allow certified public accountants (CPAs) licensed in other states to practice in Texas without obtaining a Texas license if their home state's licensure requirements are determined to be comparable to or exceed those in Texas. It also establishes specific education, examination, and experience requirements for CPAs from other states who seek to exercise these privileges. The bill gives the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy the authority to prohibit practice if requirements are not met and clarifies that existing licensed CPAs as of January 1, 2025, retain privileges under these rule
