Initially Referred to House Public Health Committee, chaired by a Republican
HB 1675, titled "Mona's Law," proposes to allow perpetual care cemeteries to inter cremated remains of pets with their owners. This can include placing pet remains in the owner's casket, burying them in a separate grave nearby, or placing them beside the owner's cremated remains in a columbarium. The bill also permits the inclusion of information about the pet on the owner's memorial and allows cemeteries to designate separate areas for families wishing to bury human and pet remains together. It explicitly prohibits euthanizing pets for the purpose of burial with their owners and requires the Texas Finance Commission to adopt rules for implementation.
