Caption: Relating to the use of the skills development fund by certain entities.
Initially Referred to Senate Economic Development Committee, chaired by a Republican
Last Referred to House S/C on Workforce Committee, chaired by a Democrat
SB 856 expands the authorized use of the Skills Development Fund by adding the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station and the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service as eligible entities to receive funding for customized workforce training programs. The bill allows these entities to recover costs for training in high-demand occupations and ensures their programs align with local labor market needs. It also introduces additional reporting and accountability measures, requiring biennial reviews to assess program effectiveness and economic impact. Entities that fail to submit required reports may be subject to funding refunds and disqualification from future grants.
