SB 995 modifies the approval process for surety bonds required for contracts that authorize oversize or overweight vehicles to cross roads or highways. The bill shifts the approval authority for these bonds from the Texas Comptroller and Attorney General to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). It mandates that the surety bond, which compensates for maintenance and repair costs associated with road damage, be executed with a corporate surety authorized to do business in Texas. This change centralizes oversight of these bonds within TxDOT.
