Initially Referred to House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee, chaired by a Republican
HB 2448 amends the Code of Criminal Procedure to allow a defense attorney to waive arraignment on behalf of a defendant without requiring the defendant's physical presence. It also prevents court clerks from requiring the defendant's presence as a condition for accepting the waiver. This change streamlines court procedures by allowing arraignments to be waived more efficiently.
