Caption: Relating to the requirement that a person submit an application for an exemption from ad valorem taxation for certain property used for human burial.
Initially Referred to House Ways & Means Committee, chaired by a Republican
Last Referred to Senate Local Government Committee, chaired by a Republican
HB 2723 allows chief appraisers to automatically grant ad valorem tax exemptions for property used for human burial, even if no formal exemption application has been filed. The exemption applies if the appraiser determines, based on a reasonable inspection, that the property is a burial site and that the owner is not identifiable. This change applies to tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2026.
