Caption: Relating to the control by lethal means of white-tailed deer in certain areas.
Initially Referred to House Culture, Recreation & Tourism Committee, chaired by a Republican
Last Referred to Senate Water, Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, chaired by a Republican
HB 2842 updates wildlife population control regulations, specifically regarding lethal control of white-tailed deer by certain government entities, homeowners' associations, and institutions of higher education. It allows these entities to submit evidence to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department demonstrating the need for lethal deer population control due to overpopulation or habitat destruction affecting endangered or threatened species. The bill grants the department the authority to inspect properties, evaluate deer management plans, and determine whether recreational hunting is a feasible alternative before issuing permits for lethal control.
