Caption: Relating to user reports of explicit deep fake material on social media platforms.
Initially Referred to House Trade, Workforce & Economic Development Committee, chaired by a Republican
Last Referred to Senate State Affairs Committee, chaired by a Republican
HB 3133 requires social media platforms to establish a complaint system for users to report explicit deep fake material. The bill defines "explicit deep fake material" as digitally altered visual content that falsely depicts a person engaging in sexual conduct or exposing intimate body parts. Social media companies must remove reported content within 48 hours, investigate the complaint, and confirm receipt of the report within seven days. If the investigation confirms the material is an explicit deep fake, the platform must implement measures to prevent reposting. Platforms must notify users about investigation progress and can restore content if found not to be explicit deep fake material.
