Caption: Relating to the authority of the governing body of a school district to adopt an ad valorem tax rate that exceeds the district's voter-approval tax rate.
Initially Referred to Senate Local Government Committee, chaired by a Republican
Last Referred to House Ways & Means Committee, chaired by a Republican
SB 1502 prohibits school districts from adopting an ad valorem tax rate that exceeds the voter-approval tax rate if voters have previously rejected a proposed tax increase in an election. This measure strengthens taxpayer control over school district tax increases by preventing repeated attempts to exceed voter-approved tax limits.
