Initially Referred to House S/C on Family & Fiduciary Relationships Committee, chaired by a Democrat
Last Referred to Senate State Affairs Committee, chaired by a Republican
HB 3181 strengthens enforcement mechanisms for court orders regarding child possession and access. It allows courts to automatically modify custody arrangements when a parent is found in contempt for denying court-ordered visitation more than once. The bill prohibits courts from granting probation or suspending penalties in cases where a parent repeatedly violates possession orders. Additionally, courts must order make-up visitation time equal to twice the amount of time denied, and repeat violators must cover all legal fees and costs incurred by the other parent.
