SB1541

View at Source

Caption: Relating to state oversight of county elections following a county election audit.
Initially Referred to Senate State Affairs Committee, chaired by a Republican
Last Referred to House Elections Committee, chaired by a Republican
SB 1541 allows the Texas Secretary of State to oversee county election offices that repeatedly fail audits or show patterns of election mismanagement. If systemic issues are identified, the state can intervene and monitor county election operations until problems are resolved. This authority applies to all counties, removing a previous restriction that limited oversight to counties with populations over 4 million.
