Caption: Relating to the appointment of a receiver for and sale or acquisition of certain parcels of land that are abandoned, unoccupied, and undeveloped in certain municipalities.
Initially Referred to Senate Local Government Committee, chaired by a Republican
Last Referred to House Intergovernmental Affairs Committee, chaired by a Republican
SB 1579 establishes an expedited process for municipalities in certain border-adjacent counties to determine and address abandoned, unoccupied, and undeveloped land parcels. The bill allows municipalities to designate such land as abandoned if it meets specific criteria, including remaining undeveloped for 25 years, having low assessed value, and not being used for agriculture. It also outlines a process for notifying owners, conducting hearings, and appointing a receiver to manage and eventually sell or repurpose the land to encourage development.
