SB1592

Given to Other Chamber
Authored by Cesar Blanco (D)
View at Source

Caption: Relating to the collection of state, municipal, and county hotel occupancy taxes by an accommodations intermediary.
Initially Referred to Senate Economic Development Committee, chaired by a Republican
SB 1592 mandates that accommodations intermediaries, such as online booking platforms, collect and remit state, municipal, and county hotel occupancy taxes directly to the Texas Comptroller. The bill defines "accommodations intermediary" and clarifies that intermediaries are responsible for collecting taxes on booking charges, rather than the hotel operators. It requires the Comptroller to provide a reporting system for tax collection and establish a tax remittance schedule. The bill also creates an audit mechanism for intermediaries and restricts municipalities from imposing additional collection burdens. These provisions take effect on June 1, 2026.
