Initially Referred to House Corrections Committee, chaired by a Republican
HB 3261, known as the Crime Reduction and Economic Growth Act, expands eligibility for individuals seeking an order of nondisclosure of criminal history records. It modifies timelines and eligibility criteria for certain individuals placed on deferred adjudication or community supervision, reducing waiting periods for filing nondisclosure petitions. The bill also allows individuals who successfully complete specialty court programs to apply for nondisclosure and updates procedures for those with multiple convictions or offenses committed before the age of 25. The bill intends to provide a clearer pathway for individuals to seal their records and enhance employment opportunities.
