Caption: Relating to the establishment of a public law school in El Paso County.
Initially Referred to House Higher Education Committee, chaired by a Republican
HB 3475 authorizes the establishment of a public law school in El Paso County by a Texas university system. The bill allows any university system governing board to operate the law school as a professional school and issue degrees equivalent to those of other leading U.S. law schools. Before the law school is established, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board must conduct a feasibility study to determine the steps needed for accreditation. The bill caps bond issuance for construction at $40 million and ensures that the law school receives constitutional funding if affiliated with UT or Texas A&M or through other funding reallocations for non-affiliated universities.
