Caption: Relating to a reduction in the amount of sales and use tax collections that the owners of restaurants that participate in an oyster shell recycling program are required to remit to the comptroller of public accounts. HB 3487 creates a sales and use tax reduction for restaurants participating in oyster shell recycling programs. Food service establishments that collect and donate oyster shells to an approved recycling program can deduct $2 for every 50 pounds of oyster shells recycled from their state sales tax liability. The Texas Comptroller, in consultation with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, will oversee the certification of recycling programs.
