SB1832
Assigned to Committee Authored by Tan Parker (R) View at Source
Caption: Relating to providing for an election by the parent of a student who was victimized by a public school employee to transfer the student to another public school campus or receive funding for the student to attend private school. Initially Referred to Senate Education K-16 Committee, chaired by a Republican Last Referred to House Public Education Committee, chaired by a Republican
SB 1832 creates a school choice program for students who have been victimized by public school employees. The bill allows parents to transfer their child to another public school or receive state funding to enroll in a private school, including homeschooling, if a school district employee is convicted, placed on deferred adjudication, or credibly accused of sexual misconduct or grooming behavior against the student. Transfers to another public school campus or district must be approved by the receiving school, and districts are not required to provide transportation. If a parent chooses private school enrollment, the state will provide an annual education grant equal to the per-student funding the student would have received in their public school district. The program is available until the student graduates or becomes ineligible for public school enrollment.
