Caption: Relating to the use of a social media platform in furtherance of an offense involving the delivery of a controlled substance; increasing criminal penalties.

Last Referred to House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee, chaired by a Republican
SB 1833 increases criminal penalties for the use of social media platforms to facilitate the delivery of controlled substances. If a defendant is found guilty of using social media in furtherance of an offense related to drug distribution, the punishment is upgraded to the next higher category of offense. For first-degree felonies, the penalty increases by five years, and the maximum fine is doubled. The bill applies only to offenses committed on or after September 1, 2025.
