Caption: Relating to discipline management, including the offense of exhibiting, using, or threatening to exhibit or use a firearm or weapon in or on school property or on a school bus, and access to telehealth mental health services in public schools.
Initially Referred to Senate Education K-16 Committee, chaired by a Republican
SB 1871 strengthens school discipline policies by requiring immediate reporting of student threats involving weapons, establishing stricter removal policies for disruptive students, and increasing oversight of disciplinary referrals. It also mandates access to telehealth mental health services for students and clarifies procedures for school personnel to intervene in behavioral incidents.
