Caption: Relating to increasing the criminal penalty for certain offenses committed by an alien.
Initially Referred to House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee, chaired by a Republican| HB 3790 increases criminal penalties for offenses committed by aliens. If a court determines that a defendant was an alien at the time of an offense, the punishment is elevated to the next highest category. Minimum sentencing requirements are also increased for first-degree felonies and Class A misdemeanors. |
