This bill would cost taxpayers $2,739,523.00 over five years, according to the Legislative Budget Bureau.
SB 1950 increases eligibility requirements for unemployment benefits and strengthens fraud prevention measures. It mandates that claimants perform at least five verifiable work search activities per week, expands disqualifications for failing to respond to job interviews, and requires the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) to cross-check claims against federal and state databases to detect fraudulent claims. The bill also improves identity verification procedures for unemployment claims.
