Caption: Relating to the accrual of interest on overdue child support.
Initially Referred to House S/C on Family & Fiduciary Relationships Committee, chaired by a Democrat
Last Referred to Senate Jurisprudence Committee, chaired by a Republican
HB 4213 reduces the interest rate on overdue child support payments and judgments from 6% to 3% per year. This applies to delinquent child support exceeding the monthly obligation, arrearages confirmed as money judgments, and retroactive or lump-sum child support orders. The changes affect payments due and judgments rendered on or after January 1, 2026, while maintaining prior interest rates for arrearages accrued before that date.
