Initially Referred to House Culture, Recreation & Tourism Committee, chaired by a Republican
Last Referred to Senate Economic Development Committee, chaired by a Republican
HB 4230 establishes the Bicentennial Trail, a network of hike and bike trails connecting the Alamo to the Texas State Capitol, with additional connections to Barton Springs, San Marcos Springs, Comal Springs, and San Antonio Springs. The Texas General Land Office is responsible for coordinating the project, which must be completed by January 1, 2036. The law prohibits the use of eminent domain to acquire land for the trail and requires memoranda of understanding with municipalities, nonprofit organizations, and state agencies for maintenance and conservation. The Parks and Wildlife Department will oversee trail maintenance, and the law is set to expire on September 1, 2037.
