Caption: Relating to authorizing certain counties to impose a hotel occupancy tax and the use of revenue from that tax.
Initially Referred to House Ways & Means Committee, chaired by a Republican
Last Referred to Senate Economic Development Committee, chaired by a Republican
HB 4926 allows certain counties to impose a hotel occupancy tax and defines its usage. It applies to counties with a population under 100,000 that border the Navasota River and host an annual renaissance festival. The tax may not exceed 7%, except in municipalities that already impose a hotel tax, where it is capped at 2%. Revenue from this tax may be used for constructing and maintaining civic centers, advertising tourism, and historical preservation efforts.
