SB 37 proposes governance reforms for public institutions of higher education. It establishes a General Education Review Committee at each institution to evaluate core curriculum, prohibits courses that endorse specific ideologies or policies, and increases oversight by governing boards on hiring and curriculum decisions. It also mandates new faculty council regulations, requires strict training for board members, and creates the Office of Excellence in Higher Education to monitor compliance. Additionally, the bill requires institutions to review and possibly eliminate low-enrollment minor degree programs.
