SB 2501 allows indigent parents in certain family law cases to select their own attorney for appointment as an attorney ad litem if the selected attorney is licensed and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas. If the court finds the attorney meets the requirements, the court must appoint them and terminate any previously appointed attorney ad litem. The bill ensures that selected attorneys are subject to all existing laws and disciplinary provisions governing attorney ad litem representation.
