Caption: Relating to the board of trustees and superintendent of a school district, including the election of trustees of underperforming districts, and the hiring of a superintendent.
Initially Referred to Senate Education K-16 Committee, chaired by a Republican
Last Referred to House Public Education Committee, chaired by a Republican
SB 2619 imposes mandatory re-elections for school district trustees in districts rated F for two consecutive years or designated as rapidly declining. If a school district qualifies, the Texas Education Commissioner will notify the board, and all trustee terms expire before December 31 of the following year. The bill also requires school boards to review the academic performance history of superintendent candidates before hiring and to publicly post relevant information online.
