Caption: Relating to the duty of the attorney general to prosecute human trafficking criminal offenses.
Initially Referred to House State Affairs Committee, chaired by a Republican
Last Referred to Senate Criminal Justice Committee, chaired by a Republican
HB 45 grants the Texas Attorney General the authority to prosecute human trafficking offenses if local prosecutors do not initiate proceedings within six months of receiving a probable cause report from law enforcement. It requires law enforcement agencies to send such reports to both local prosecutors and the Attorney General's office and mandates that local agencies provide information to the Attorney General upon request to assist in prosecutions.
