Christin Bentley:
"HB 900 Clean up bill based on ruling by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and Administrative Law Judge with the Texas Education Agency. It includes strengthened definitions, library transparency, and civil enforcement."
HB 5485 imposes stricter content standards on school library collections. It prohibits the possession or acquisition of materials classified as harmful, sexually explicit, pervasively vulgar, or containing profane content. It also requires greater parental involvement, transparency in library catalogs, and establishes a civil penalty for school districts that fail to comply.
