Caption: Relating to innovations in core curriculum to accelerate the award of bachelor's degrees.
Initially Referred to Senate Education K-16 Committee, chaired by a Republican
Last Referred to House Higher Education Committee, chaired by a Republican
SB 2847 modifies core curriculum requirements in Texas public universities to accelerate the time needed to complete a bachelor's degree. It allows the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to approve core curriculums with fewer than 42 semester credit hours if they are designed to accelerate workforce-aligned credentials. The bill also ensures that students who complete core curriculum coursework at one institution can transfer those credits to another institution without having to take additional core courses.
